2000 Lions Club of Milverton – Optimist Club of Mornington Pin

PCT Lion Doug Fyfe reminisces, "I've reached out to the Club’s longer-serving members, and there is a recollection that a joint fundraiser was carried out in 2000 to jointly celebrate the Mornington Optimists' and Milverton Lions' anniversaries. The pin denotes the strong Amish community within the general Milverton & area community.

Both Clubs still jointly participate in fundraisers and other community service activities.

Fyi, the largest Amish community in North America is in Milverton and 10km radius. A few years ago I participated in an Amish and Old Order Mennonite meeting hosted by the Huron-Perth Public Health Unit as part of the Unit's community health program in which Lions Clubs in Perth and Huron counties were involved in the Vision & Hearing Screening Program that was in place at the time. Someone asked if it was not Pennsylvania, USA, that had the largest number of Amish, rather than the village of Milverton and surrounds, and at that time Milverton & area as described above had 12% more Amish people than in the entire state of Pennsylvania.

I have Amish neighbours on both sides of me with whom we have a strong & reciprocal friendship."

- Thank you PCT Lion Doug Fyfe, Nov 18, 2022
