Supporting youth in positive development

Dear Lions,

First let me introduce myself - I'm the A-15 Lions Quest Chair this year and look forward to working with you to expand the program in our District this year.

We are inviting you to be involved in two ways - through your financial support and by reaching out to schools & educators in your community.

Every donation is appreciated and makes a difference. The power of Lions joining together to invest in our young people is what counts. Please ensure to include Lions Quest in your budget this year. Consider honouring someone in your club or community with a Lions Quest Fellowship for $500. You can also donate to Step Up For Kids happening on September 16 and/or pledge your support for our Giving Tuesday campaign happening on Tuesday November 28. Donations to support Lions Quest Canada can be sent to PO Box 27106, Dundas McLaren RPO, Cambridge, ON N1R 8H1. Donations to support Lions Quest activity within our district can be made out to District A15 and tagged for Lions Quest, then mailed to the Cabinet Treasurer Brian Spivey, PO Box 631, 80 King St, Burford, ON, N0E 1A0.

Another way that you can support Lions Quest locally is by sharing the information with schools & educators in your community. Lions Quest training is now available virtually as well as in-person, and there are two upcoming workshops on November 15 from 4-6 pm or December 1 from 1-3 pm. The cost is just $350/participant and includes all the material required to implement the program at one grade level as well as the training. Please visit www.lionsquest.ca.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of our request to support this awarding winning initiative, one of Lions Clubs Internationals signature youth programs. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Yours in Lionism,

Barbara Melara

Our first Lions Quest Ambassador workshop was held on Thursday and it was well attended by members with a keen interest in learning more about Lions Quest and wanting to discuss ways to use that knowledge to help promote and build Lions Quest workshops in A15.
Thank you to all that attended.

For those who could not attend, there will be a SECOND Lions Quest Ambassador workshop on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 7:00PM at the Kitchener Oktoberfest Lions Den, 200 Heritage Drive, Kitchener, ON.

This workshop will cover the same material as the first and is intended for members who were either not appointed yet or could not attend the first one. As with the first workshop, some food and beverages will be provided. The is no cost to the members.

I hope that your club can send someone to this, the second of 3 regional workshops planned for this Lions year.

Please register by January 31, 2019 or email me if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Thank you.
Denis Vinette,
Lions Quest Chairperson

Do you worry about ...

  • Bullying?
  • Community Safety?
  • What the future holds for our Canadian young people?

It's time to make a difference by supporting Lions Quest Canada in your community

Lions Quest Canada brings the family, school and community together in support of Positive Youth Development. We support...

  • The development of healthy and responsible young people
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Character development
  • Building developmental assets in all young people
  • Positive behaviour and social responsibility

Lions, awareness and education, through our school based programs and community workshops will help to put an end to "Bullying"

Little known considerations are also the feelings that a "Bully" will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Tragedy can and should be averted. We would like to see our young people have the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

What can we do?

Letter to Lions Family 2015-16

Financial support is key. Please make a donation to Lions Quest Canada an annual part of your budget. Consider a Lions Quest Fellowship - for $500 you can honour and recognize someone in your club or community. Our goal this year is $10,000 from every Lions District in Canada. In A-15 we have always far surpassed that, and we know that we will continue to lead the way in Canada. Indeed, we are targeting $15,000 as a very attainable target.

Lions Quest Fellowship Application

Clubs/Zones/Regions could also host a community workshop, and invite Lions Quest into your community to help raise the "village" that we want to be responsible for raising our children and youth.

Be proud, spread the word, and support our national Lions project.

Lions of A15,

I want to bring you up to speed on a few Lions Quest developments and to let you know of a new District program that we will be implementing to help clubs and members participate more fully in the Lions Quest experience.

Before I begin, I want to once again thank the clubs of this District that have contributed to Lions Quest this past year. Whether you made a donation, purchased a Lions Quest Canada Fellowship or contributed otherwise, I am pleased to remind you that total A15 contributions were up over 16% year over year. Congratulations and keep your contributions coming so that we may exceed last years success.

As you may already know, we scheduled two School Based workshops this past August: 1 in Belwood, the other in Thamesford. What you may not know is that the Belwood event was very lightly attended (7 participants) and the Thamesford event was cancelled with only 1 tentative registration received. Why did this happen? Why are teachers not flocking to these opportunities? Why is our message not being heard? The reasons for this were not at first completely obvious but have become clearer to me having discussed this further with other interested individuals. Others that included teachers, retired teachers, a principal and possibly the most valuable resource we have regarding this program: Lion Joanne McQuiggan, Lions Quest Canada.

Without exception, everyone I spoke to said that the efforts of individual Lions is the most significant factor in raising interest in our Lions Quest program. Lions, as members of their community, who approach educators in their community in an active and direct way, help make Lions Quest a household name. Lions, like you and me, are needed to help schools become better informed of the program we offer. We need Lions to help schools make the choice to support and participate in Lions Quest workshops as part of their complete training and knowledge as educators. Like we sometimes say about Lions, we can also say about Lions Quest: It may be that it's the "Best Kept Secret"!

Well - no more!

With this email, I am asking each club to ask for a member to stand-up and accept the role as club "Lions Quest Ambassador". This person will be part of a District wide team and will be given an opportunity to participate in a Lions Quest information seminar provided at 3 different occasions in District A15. They will receive in-depth knowledge of the Lions Quest family of programs and have an opportunity to hear about "best-practices" on getting Lions Quest introduced into their local schools.

Lions: What I'm asking is not new. This is as it was and now needs to be again. Think of this as a renaissance and I am looking for individuals that value our youth and are wanting to be a part of the success that comes from schools that adopt the Lions Quest program.

As a club, please help by appointing a club representative for this new initiative and we'll do the rest. Lions: We can make this happen. We need to make this happen.

Looking forward to hearing from you and please distribute this email and the attached flyer to your club members.

Thank you in advance,

Denis Vinette, PDG Chairperson, Lions Quest, District A15
