John Subject, October 27, 1938 to April 13, 2020

John Subject of Atwood, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Monday April 13, 2020 at the age of 81. After retiring from the farm, John began a career building houses and selling OAA insurance. John was a life member of the Atwood Lions Club having received both the Melvin Jones and Helen Keller awards for his outstanding service to the community for over 45 years. He was instrumental in organizing and running the weekly Thursday night bingo. John participated in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign and enjoyed helping Iola with quilting and painting saws. John and Iola spent many summers enjoying their trailer at Family Paradise Campground with family and friends.

Beloved husband of Iola (Bell) Subject with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 1, 2019. Loving father of Brenda McKinnon, Harold (Bev) Subject and Kevin (Wendy and family) Subject. Special grandfather of Jesse (Nicole), Curtis, Cody (Saunie), Bobby (Carrie), Stacey (Sean), and Trevor (Marnee) and great-grandfather of Isla, Kinzley, Michael, Olivia, Avery and Liam. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Betty Szucs, Doris (Danny) Ensinger, Ella Pfieffer, Albert (Sheila) Subject, Donna Subject, Joanne Subject, Jennifer Subject, John Zinken and Sandra (Alvin) Heard. Fondly remembered and loved by Kyla, the extended Bell family and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Christian and Emma (Marsh) Subject, brothers Kenneth, Mervin, Carl, George, Bruce and sisters Madeline, Emmaline and Elaine.

A private family service will be held at Brenneman Funeral Home followed by burial in Elma Centre Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at a later date.
