John Van Dyk, formerly Paradise & District Lions Club

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Van Dyk, on Friday, September 22, 2023. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather (Opa), a gentle and kind man, good friend and an active member of the community. We will miss his presence in our lives and his unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on September 26, 1940, John was a man of integrity, known for his sense of humour and strong work ethic. He was also dedicated to his community, serving as part of the Lion’s Club for more than 35 years. John cherished time with family, was a fan of car rallies (and was an expert navigator), had a passion for NFL Football and curling, and followed the ups and downs of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was known for his technical, mathematical and engineering abilities, and was often the first person many of us called for help and advice. His sense of humour was well known and he had a line or response for every occasion.

John leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Van Dyk; his children Michelle Van Dyk (Jason Belanger) and Paul Van Dyk (Sarah Moloughney); and his grandchildren Henry, Neva and Nathaniel. He will also be dearly missed by his brothers, sisters, extended family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road, London. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Hyde Park & District Lions Club via e-transfer to treasurer@hydeparklions.ca.
