International Counselor (PDG) Don Gamble

With great sadness we share the news that Donald Gamble, a lifelong dedicated Lions Club member and community fundraiser in Cambridge, Ontario and Granby, Quebec, passed away at Manotick Place in Ottawa, Ontario, on Tuesday October 11th, 2022. He was in his 97th year.

Don will now join his wife Charlotte Pozer, who passed in May 2021, in what he called “the next part of my life.” He was the father of David Gamble (Suzanne) of Ottawa, Mark Gamble (Sylvia) of Toronto, and grandmother to Benjamin (Amanda Campagna), Kathryn, Tait and Grayden, and Great-Grandfather to Bailey Dougherty. He was the dear brother of Verna Sparks (Jack) and was predeceased by his brother Robert and sisters Gwynneth Trappitt and Greta LaGrave. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Don was born in Carp, Ontario and was fiercely proud of his upbringing in Manotick. He often regaled his family with stories of his childhood during the Great Depression. It was not all joyous however as his parents Kenneth and Verna Mae passed in their 40s and the family was separated. This made Don very conscious of maintaining family ties with his siblings as well as the Pozer Family.

After joining and serving in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1944-46, Dad found work with Canadian Westinghouse which eventually brought him to Granby, Quebec in 1951, where he met Charlotte (They married in 1953) and spent many years there raising their boys. They moved to Cambridge, Ontario in 1981, where they continued their active lives.Don's life's work was community service, almost always in partnership with Charlotte, for the Lions Club and the Anglican parishes of St. George's in Granby and St. James' in Cambridge. In their 67 years of marriage they made quite a team selling Christmas cakes and running bingos among many other activities.

The Gamble Family would like to thank all the staff at Manotick Place, but especially the Assisted Living team, for their loving care and support. Their dedication during difficult times will always be remembered.

Don's Family will receive friends and family at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Friday November 11 from 6 to 9 pm and Saturday November 12 from 10 am to 12 noon. A Celebration of Life Service for Don will be held at St. James' Anglican Church in Cambridge at 2 pm on Saturday November 12. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery in Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec.

As Don believed in helping others, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. The organization provides hearing, seizure response, service, autism assistance, diabetic alert, facility support and canine vision dog guides to Canadians.
