Lion Foundation Report
As LFC Chair of District A-15, I will try and keep my fellow Lions updated on the events and happenings at the Foundation.
This year’s Fall Open House is set for Oct 17th from 9:30-3:00. It is at the school at 152 Wilson St, Oakville On. The Open House features a silent auction and the opportunity to learn first-hand about Dog Guides. Tour the facilities, see demonstrations from all of the Dog Guide programs and learn about the volunteer and foster puppy programs.
For the past couple of years, I have been “Auntie” to a few future Dog Guides. To watch these little balls of fur grow up to become valuable companions to people with disabilities is simply beautiful. From crate training, to middle of the night duties to crazy puppy antics is amazing how quickly these puppies learn. They go everywhere with their foster parents to learn socialization and etiquette. These amazing foster parents volunteer their time 24/7. After about a year they have to give these marvelous animals up. It’s hard, but knowing that a disabled person needs the dog more than they do makes it all worthwhile. Please consider fostering one of these pups and you will truly be changing a life!
